Volunteers needed for David Borden 5k
The Winchester YMCA is hosting a 5 km race in downtown Winchester on September 3rd. A normal part of the Daniel Boone Festival, this will be the second year the race is named for David Borden. For those that didn't know David, he was a happy man that lived life to its fullest. David courageously fought a typically deadly cancer and won. I met David in the Y and immediately liked him and his kind eyes. Weeks later he asked me to help him rebuild the body he lost to cancer. David, consistent with his character, fought hard to regain his strength and balance. In his own words he felt better everyday and his workouts showed it. We had started to talk about doing the YMCA 5k together when a tragic accident took his life. I encourage everyone to participate (and wear your David Borden style head band) in this event honoring a man that inspired me and many others.
