The 3rd Annual David Borden Memorial 5k will be held on September 30 in downtown Winchester. The race is normally held as a part of the Daniel Boone festival, but was rescheduled this year for Hurricane Irma. For those that didn't know David, he was a happy man that lived life to its fullest. David courageously fought a typically deadly cancer and won. I met David at the YMCA and immediately liked him and his kind eyes. Weeks later he asked me to help him rebuild the body he lost to cancer. David, consistent with his character, fought hard to regain his strength and balance. In his own words he felt better everyday, and his workouts showed it. We had started to talk about doing the Daniel Boone Festival 5k together when a tragic accident took his life. I encourage everyone to participate (and wear your David Borden style head band) in this event honoring a man that inspired me and many others.
